What is the difference between a Domain and Subdomain?

Consider www.newzenler.com. This is a Domain.

The Domain can be bought from any hosting providers like Namecheap, GoDaddy etc. This is the top-level Domain name.

What is a Subdomain?
A Subdomain is a domain that comes off of the root Domain.

Example: tutorials.newzenler.com. So the Subdomain in this case would be tutorials (remember the root or top level is newzenler.com)

Subdomains can be set up when you've got a domain name (top level), most ISP (Internet Service Provider) allow you to set up Subdomains with your site Domain.

So a Subdomain is built off of a root or top level Domain.

So that is a little bit of an introduction on Domains and Subdomain.

See the graphic below that shows a clear picture on this.

You can see here, we have a main domain that you bought www.newzenler.com and we have three subdomains:
โ€‹tutorials.newzenler.com, example.newzenler.com and example2.newzenler.com

Each Subdomain and or Domain is completely separate from each other so you can point it where you like and put different content in each one might be a Wordpress site another a Zenler Membership area or a Zenler Course site.

To set a Custom Domain or Subdomain go to Site > Site Settings > Custom Domain

This video explains the difference between the Domains that you buy and the Subdomains that you set up underneath your actual main domain name.

Information for different ISPs

For the Custom Domain to work, you need to create a CNAME record in your domain provider's dashboard. A CNAME record tells the browser to load the Zenler site when you enter your domain for eg. www.your-site.com or courses.your-site.com in the browser.

Each domain provider will have a different screen to create the CNAME record.

You can use the links below to set up a CNAME record for corresponding providers.

IMPORTANT Please note that it can take up to 24 hours for your custom domain to propagate throughout the world wide web so please do not rush it (after setting up your CNAME record).
