What is Two-Factor Authentication?

Two-factor authentication (2FA) is a security process that is referred to as a two-step verification or dual-factor authentication, in which users provide two different authentication factors to verify themselves.

Two-factor authentication adds an additional layer of security to the authentication process by making it harder for attackers to gain access to a person's devices or online accounts because, even if the victim's password is hacked, a password alone is not enough to pass the authentication check.

Why is Two-Factor Authentication?

2FA is implemented to better protect both a user's credentials and the resources the user can access. Two-factor authentication provides a higher level of security than authentication methods that depend on single-factor authentication (SFA), in which the user provides only one factor -- typically, a password or passcode. Two-factor authentication methods rely on a user providing a password as the first factor and a second, different factor -- usually either a security token.

How to enable Two-Factor Authentication for Zenler logins

Let us see how to enable 2FA for your log-ins.

  1. Log -into your account and get the admin dashboard

  3. Click the button Enable Two-Factor Authentication

  4. Enter your current password to verify the account and then click Next button

  5. You will go to the next step Configure Authentication App

To configure the authentication app, you need to install Google Authenticator (Google Play / App Store) on your mobile device.

Open the same and press the + button. There are two options you can see - Scan a QR code and Enter a setup key. Choose any one of the options to set up the token.
    a. Scan a QR code: Go to this option and scan the QR code shown on the system screen.

    b. Enter a setup key: Go to this option and enter the Account Name and the setup key that can be seen on your system under the QR Code. Please note: Choose the Type of key as "Time based" and hit Add button.

A token will be created on the app with a 6-digit code.

After setting all these, click Next button on the system screen.

  6. Enter the 6-digit code shown on the Google Authenticator on the step Finish. Then click the Finish button.

Now the 2-Factor Authentication for your account is enabled.

    How Two-Factor Authentication works

At the time you log into your site, enter your email ID and password, and then click the Sign In button. The following pop-up window will be shown.

Open the Google Authenticator on your mobile device. You can see a 6-digit code under the token Zenler (ZenlerTOTP). Enter the code shown in the above window and click SUBMIT. Now the verification is complete.

If you are unable to enter the code or facing any problems, you can click the link 'Click here' shown on the above wizard. A link will be sent to your email address. You can log in by clicking the same.

Note: Currently, the roles Admin, Instructor, Assistant, and Support can enable 2FA.
